Open Water Swimming in Kent and Sussex

Wild Swimming In The Heart of Kent's Countryside

Open Water Swimming Returns to Bewl Water on Saturday 3rd May!

Discover the joys of open water swimming at Bewl Water, one of the most picturesque locations for outdoor swimming in Kent and Sussex. Partnered with the Hastings and St Leonards Voluntary Lifeguard Club, we offer a safe swimming experience set amidst the stunning natural surroundings of South East England’s largest reservoir.

Open Water Swimming Sessions & Prices

Our open water swimming sessions at Bewl Water are designed to cater to both seasoned swimmers and newcomers. Sessions cost £8 for 60 minutes and run every Saturday from 9am – 10am.

Please note that pre-booking is essential and you must arrive with plenty of time to get changed and participate in a 10-minute safety induction.

Wild Swimming Health and Safety

At Bewl Water, your safety is our top priority when it comes to open water swimming.

All swimmers are required to complete an induction with our lifeguards and fill out a safety questionnaire before their session. Please ensure you arrive at least 10 minutes early to allow time for this process. This requirement applies even if you have taken part in open water swimming with us before.

Please read the following safety requirements carefully before making a booking.

  • Tow floats: These are required for all swimmers. If you do not own one, you can hire one for £3 during ticket purchase (subject to availability).
  • Brightly coloured swim hats: These are available for purchase from the Fishing Lodge; however, we encourage swimmers to bring their own due to limited stock.
  • Wetsuits: Wetsuits are mandatory for all participants. Please note that swimmers must bring their own wetsuits, as we do not provide them on-site.
  • Minimum age: Swimmers must be at least 14 years old. Proof of age is required, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
  • Coaching: While we do not offer coaching, our facilities are ideal for both training sessions and leisurely swims. All sessions are supervised by fully qualified Open Water Swimming Lifeguards with support from the Hastings and St Leonards Voluntary Lifeguard Club.

Parking and Facilities

Free parking is included during your open water swimming session. To redeem this, please enter your registration number when booking and follow the signs to the water sports car park. After your swim, standard parking charges will apply. You can use the RingGo app or pay by cash or card in the Waterfront Cafe.

After your open water swimming session, why not sit back and relax with stunning reservoir views? With changing facilities and food and drink options, you can extend your visit and make the most of your time here.

  • Showers: Onsite showers are available to refresh and rinse off after your swim.
  • Food and drink: Enjoy a variety of treats and hearty meals from our Waterfront Cafe, pop-up cafe, and Ice Cream Parlour.
