International Women’s Day, also known as United Nations Day for Women, highlights and celebrates the achievements of women throughout history worldwide. Predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries, the UN adopted the day in 1975.
The earliest national day recorded, ’National Women’s Day’, was held on 28th February 1909 in New York. In late 1910 at an International Women’s Conference in Denmark, German socialist Luise Zietz proposed the creation of an annual International Women’s Day.
Although there were women-led strikes, marches and protests, none of these took place on 8th March until 1914. Since then, it has been celebrated on the same day every year.
To help you celebrate, we’ve put together our top activities that are available at Bewl Water this International Women’s Day, whether it’s with your work colleagues or your girlfriends:
Cycling: Bring your own bikes or hire them from the Bewl Water rental shop whilst picking up a map. How far will you go? The 12 ½ mile route around the reservoir takes in a variety of paths including all weather tracks and quiet country lanes and can be cycled in both directions.
Outdoor Laser tag: The perfect outdoor activity for the girls… all the fun of paintballing, without the pain! Team up with the girls, get the camouflage on and head out into Bewl Waters’ woodlands.
Boat Trip with a Cream Tea at the Waterfront: Sit back and relax as we take you on a journey around the reservoir. Take in the sights and sounds of the Bewl Water wildlife on a 45 minute round trip. Onto dry land, where you can enjoy a cream tea, or an afternoon tea with a hot beverage in the Waterfront Café.
Ladies who Lunch at the Waterfront Café: Enjoy a light bite in the Waterfront Café. Open between 10am-4pm on Thursday, the Waterfront Café offers a wide range of hot and cold food options. If your bringing the kids, let them work off some steam in the free indoor soft play area, also located in the Waterfront, whilst you chat away with your ladies.
Bewl Water Geocaching: Using GPS equipment, navigate your way to a series of waypoints with your team. Geocache sessions last around 2 hours, which includes a 15 minute brief and 15 minutes of logical warm up games.
